Shamita Shetty’s career is associated with her films, Mohabbatein (2000, as Ishika), Saathiya (2002, cameo "Chori Pe Chori" item number song), Tamil film Raajjiyam (2002, as Pooja Karthikeyan), Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2002, cameo "Sharara Sharara" item number song), Telugu film Piliste Palakutha (2003), Wajahh: A Reason to Kill (2004), Fareb (2005), Zeher (2005, as Sonia Mehra), Bewafaa (2005, as Pallavi), Mohabbat Ho Gayi Hai Tumse (2006), Cash (2007), Heyy Babyy (2007, special appearance in a song), Tamil film Naan Aval Adhu which was simultaneously made in Telugu as Adi Oka Idhi Le (2008).

Shamita Shetty, the younger sister of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, is the second and youngest daughter of Surendra and Sunanda Shetty, a traditional close-knit family that hails from the Bunt community of Mangalore. Shamita Shetty had her education in St Anthony's Girls High School in Chembur, Mumbai and she graduated from Sydenham College.

Indian actress Shamita Shetty made her debut in films in 2000 with the Yash Raj Films blockbuster Bollywood movie Mohabbatein, directed by Aditya Chopra. Since then she mostly found success in item numbers. The memorable item numbers of shamita include "Sharara Sharara" in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2001) and "Chori Pe Chori" in Saathiya (2002). She had success as an actress with her solo hit film Zeher. She had also worked with her sister Shilpa Shetty in the movie Fareb.
