Hamann Porsche Cayenne Cyclone

Flashily-dressed giant

The Porsche Cayenne has been a raving succes at the cost of indivualism to their owners. Several German tuning houses have already constructed body kits for the Cayenne, and today Hamann released their latest, and arguably, most extravagant package for the SUV.

Hamann gives the Cayenne a wide body aerodynamic component kit consisting of a new front spoiler with two integrated LED-daytime running lights and fog lamps, extended wheel arches for a more imposing look, roof spoiler and rear-facing panel with diffuser.

The Cayenne has been lowered by 35mm through a lowering system with pneumatic shock absorption. Hamann has either 22 inch (Anniversary II) or 23 inch (Edition Race) light alloy wheels on offer. With their Hamann sport exhaust system with 4-pipe sports competition silencer, the Laupheim modifiers even tune the sound of the SUV, with some extra horsepower as a nice bonus.

To stress that the interior can be upgraded to whatever the customer wants is proven in this demo car. The show car is furnished with Twotone Snake full leather upholstery, aluminium foot rest, pearl velours floor mats and 36-piece carbon coated interior-set.

Press Release

The HAMANN Porsche Cayenne “Cyclone”

* Extensive wide body aerodynamic component kit “Cyclone” designed by HAMANN
* HAMANN-Daytime running lights for better safety
* 22“ and 23“ alloy wheels ANNIVERSARY II and EDITION RACE available

The Porsche Cayenne enjoys great popularity with the customers. No wonder, since the noble SUV combines power and design. HAMANN MOTORSPORT in Laupheim offers various modifications for Porsche Cayenne to refine it and to make it more individual. The most obvious alteration ist the shapely and mighty envelopment. Fitted with the HAMANN wide body-kit the Cayenne becomes the “Cyclone”!

A true HAMANN without aerodynamical conversion is inconceivable. Even more so, when the vehicle in question is a Power SUV like the Cayenne. Brandnew is the HAMANN wide body-kit, which make the Cayenne appear even more imposing. Fitted with this kit, the Cayenne may call itself „Cyclone“.

The front view presents itself in an unmistakable optical characteristic. The specialists in Laupheim designed a front spoiler with two integrated LED-daytime running lights and fog lamps each. By offering the LED daytime running lights HAMANN makes a valuable safety contribution. Three high performance-LEDs and 250 reflectors lead to a better signal aspect. Their lucent white signal light is highly visible even at daytime and warns oncoming traffic fast and efficiently, which in case of emergency leads to better reaction time. Further advantage: LEDs beat normal H7-bulbs in terms of durability because they can be used 30 times longer. Additionally, they lead to less fuel consumption which is a result of their better energy-efficiency.

But even with switched off LED´s the „Cyclone“ is a flashily-dressed giant. The front and rear extended wheel arches give the Cayenne an absolutely powerful. The back also demonstrates individual power: roof spoiler and rear-facing panel with integrated diffuser and cut-out for the HAMANN 4-pipe sports competition silencer. The tail lights with four individual light fixtures are real eye-catchers.

Corresponding to the performance and in order to provide suitable optical characteristics, HAMANN offers a lowering system for all vehicles with pneumatic shock absorption. The vehicle is thus lowered in front and rear by approx. 35 millimetres. Of course, the vehicle thus reacts distinctly more accurately to the steering system and offers pure driving pleasure.

The specifically developed HAMANN brake system for the front axle with slotted and ventilated brake discs sized 380 x 34 millimetres, aluminium disc chamber, sports brake linings and steelflex brake pipes. The eight-piston fixed calliper disc brakes in silver complete the system and apply a powerful grip. At the rear axle an four-piston brake system with slotted and ventilated brake discs sized 380x28mm plus the same hardware as above support the system working at the front.

Optimal contact with the road is guaranteed by the HAMANN light-alloy wheels ANNIVERSARY II for 22 inch tyres. The multi-part aluminium wheel in multi-spoke design is available in the dimensions 10.5 J x 22 inches for front and rear axle. If you prefer it a size larger, you can also have the size 11.5 J x 22 inches for the rear axle, but then only in combination with the flared wheel arches. The silver ANNIVERSARY II with high gloss polished rim flange is fitted with tyres in 295/30 ZR 22 (front) and 315/30 ZR 22 (rear).

The appearance of the three-piece, ultra light forged wheels EDITION RACE in crossing spoke design and black wheel spider is identified through its nine main spokes double-attached, branching and continually double-crossing towards the outside rim. Its stirring design becomes particularly noticeable through Titan studs. The high-polished flange is icing on the cake to complete this luxurious look. The wheel EDITION RACE comes in an impressive 11x23” with tyres 315/25 R23.

HAMANN equips the “Cyclone” with high performance tires from technology partners HANKOOK.

Sound tuning – with some additional horse power produced at the same time – is accomplished by HAMANN with its sports exhaust systems. Sports headers and sports metal catalytic converters including connecting pipes for the HAMANN 4-pipe-sports rear silencer made from stainless steel, evoke thoughts of a raging cyclone closing in!

As in all HAMANN models, there are no limits to the customer’s requirements in respect of the passenger compartment. Can’t be done? – that’s not true! An absolute must is the pedal set including aluminium foot rest. Of course, the exclusive pearl velours floor mats with the silver, embroidered HAMANN logo are also indispensable. A three spoke airbag-equipped sports steering wheel connects the driver even better to his vehicle. Additional motorsports atmosphere provides the 36-piece carbon coated interior-set. Passengers preferably never want to get out of the „Cyclone“, when HAMANN fits out the passenger compartment with its „Twotone Snake“ full leather equipment. There really isn´t much room left for more precious interior! As always, HAMANN applies the rule „nothing is impossible“. Every Cayenne is customized according to each customer’s specific requests, for example with extensive multimedia conversions.

Porsche Panamera: More Info

Car manufacturers, who traditionally make a living from producing middle class four seaters and saloons favour a most motivating task for designers and engineers: "Take the components from our family car and please make a pretty coupe or a nice sports car out of it." That is - of course - a dream. Now to the nightmare, the opposite case: "Take our sports car and please make a nice family car out of it".

Inside Porsche, dream and nightmare have been living quite close together repeatedly over the years. In the beginning was the dream which fascinated the designers already back in 1938. The very first prototypes of the VW-Beetle were hardly out, when already three racing coupes were developed on the Beetle's chassis to participate in the long distance race Berlin-Rome.

Ten years and another World War later, Ferry Porsche introduced the first sports car named Porsche. That was the dream. The original 356 was equally based on the VW-Beetle, from which of course it came a long way due to its decades long evolution. However, like with any evolutionary development, Porsche's ways lead into a dead end quite often. And this preferably with prototypes and single pieces featuring four seats or even four doors.

Already in 1952 the Porsche team created a four-seater 356 with an elongated wheelbase as an answer to the family-friendly Porsche-customers of the last century. Yet, the concept was dumped. In the following years, instead of Porsche's own engineers, several styling companies busied themselves creating various Porsche four-seaters. Wendler in Reutlingen in Germany and Beutler in Switzerland came up with special models, but the problem remained always the same: the Porsche-typical lines and proportions ran out of focus, nothing really matched anymore.

In 1960 Butzi Porsche designed the first concepts of the successor to the 356. They had a glass dome with roundabout view and more headroom for the two rear passengers. But finally the typical Porsche-fastback became the winner for the 911, much to the relief of all classic-Porsche fans worldwide. In 1969 Pininfarina introduced an elongated 911 four-seater - a true nightmare technically as well as from its looks. The vehicle's rear end tended to sway like a metro city bus and the proportions were anything but attractive. Nowadays this car is privately owned.

Upon his 75th birthday Ferry Porsche received a very spectacular present from his crew: a four-seater 928 sports wagon. Up to now this car was considered the only well-made and appropriate four-seater by Porsche, however, nobody ever thought of it as a production model since the image of the 928 model range already had problems due to a wrong marketing strategy. In 1988 Porsche came up with the 989, a potential successor to the 928 with four doors. It did in fact include styling elements from the 911, but all in all looked just too stretched and sort of mangled and never went into production either.

Now, almost twenty years later, the engineers at Porsche's development center in Weißach near Zuffenhausen are finally working on the four door Porsche Panamera. The car has come to an advanced stage of development, with prototypes sighted and photographed during tests in many places of the world. And as it seems, some right clues have been taken from the experience with its less lucky predecessors. The Panamera - designed by Porsche's chief designer Michael Mauer - does not look like a stretched 911 but rather like a low levelled Cayenne. The space and off-road model range Cayenne has succeeded in achieving its acceptance by the public in a radical way. And that is why the Panamera will no longer be looked at as a faux-pas of the sports car maker Porsche, but rather as an independent Grand Touring car of the extra class. Some detours do take a little longer sometimes.

Full parallel hybrid

The Porsche Panamera will have to hit the ground running at the end of the decade in order to compete with the Aston Martin Rapide, Mercedes CLS, BMW 8-Series and in the lower regions of the four-door GT class, the VW Passat Coupe. One major selling point for the Panamera might become the availability of a full parallel hybrid engine, offering consumption of less than 9 liter per 100 kilometers.

The newly developed full parallel hybrid system is based on the current Porsche Cayenne Hybrid will consist primarely of the battery unit in the luggage compartment, power electronics, and an additional clutch and electric motor between the engine and transmission. This set-up allows the car to be driven using the gasoline engine (classic Porsche sport style), electric engine (emissions free all-electric driving) or use them both as one power unit, combining the best of both worlds.

The Porsche Panamera will initially be offered with proven drivetrains in 2009 with a hybrid version following later, depending on market requirements.

Hybrid Drive on the Porsche Panamera

Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, will also be building a hybrid drive version of the new Panamera. This four-door Gran Turismo with sporting driving dynamics so typical of Porsche will boast the proven components featured in the Cayenne Hybrid entering the market at the end of the decade. And thanks to its newly developed full parallel hybrid, Porsche’s Sports Utility will offer average fuel consumption of less than 9 litres/100 kilometres.

The new Porsche Panamera will be the first four-door sports model to feature particularly fuel-efficient full parallel hybrid technology. At the same time the Panamera will also benefit from the experience then gained by the Porsche Cayenne as a pioneer in hybrid drive.

The newly developed full parallel hybrid system will consist primarily of the battery unit positioned in the luggage compartment, the power electronics, and the hybrid module between the engine and transmission comprising an additional clutch and the electric motor. Depending on driving conditions, the hybrid module is able to disengage either the combustion engine or the electric motor, or to combine both drive systems as one joint power unit. Hence, the Panamera may be driven in a number of different modes ranging from all-electric drive absolutely free of emissions all the way to the sporting style of motoring so typical of a Porsche.

The fourth model series coming from the sports car manufacturer in Stuttgart also boasts other striking features, the wide and low body offering dynamic proportions and muscular design for an outstandingly sporting and at the same time compact overall look.

The space available inside the car offers a brand-new experience of roominess. The two sporting and comfortable single seats at the rear will allow adults to relax with surprisingly generous headroom, in full comfort and, if they wish, with all the performance and speed of a genuine Gran Turismo.

Sitting in the elegant and modern cockpit with its high-quality materials, the driver will enjoy all the sporting and unmistakable driving dynamics so typical of every Porsche. The new Panamera Gran Turismo will be making its world debut in 2009 and will be introduced initially with proven drive concepts. The hybrid version will follow later, depending on market requirements.

Cayenne-based Rinspeed X-treme Unveiled

Switzerland. Alpine birthplace to yodeling. Home to world-renowned Swiss cheese. And then there's this: the Rinspeed X-treme. Based on Porsche's newly-facelifted 957 Cayenne, the X-treme is a 'Swiss Extravaganza' with distinction fitted as standard. An aggressive aerodynamics package, available on all new Cayenne models, complements substantial upgrades to the car's powertrain and a more diversified cabin specification.

Rinspeed of Switzerland have designed the X-treme to markedly differentiate itself from Porsche's Cayenne, putting dynamism and a distinctive character at the forefront of its brief. Larger front air intakes, with fins and front splitter, air fatter brakes and a higher-output 600 hp engine. The gaping front, much like beefier wheel arches, gives the impression of a wider, more dynamic vehicle, while a 35mm lowered ride height brings with it a more poised stance.

The side skirt elegantly and unobtrusively integrates into the body and its larger arches, while understated but equally dynamic skirts at the front and rear contribute to the car's aerodynamics. An aggressive note sounds from the X-treme's sporty exhaust system, stylised by quad chrome exhaust tips. Excellent road-holding is ensured by use of large 23-inch wheels and 315/25-23 tires capable of speeds of up to 300 kph.

Customising the cabin are a range of exclusive leather trim options, with bucket seating and an in-car entertainment system among the items specifiable.
