Nissan Aims for High NOTE in Frankfurt

Nissan at the 2005 IAA in Frankfurt

With the debut of NOTE, an innovative new small family car, the Micra C+C, a chic coupé/convertible and the new sporting Micra 160SR, Nissan is using the Frankfurt Motor Show to showcase its strengthened range of small cars.

At a glance:

  • European debut of NOTE:
  • Distinctive styling – practical yet dynamic
  • The family car for the enthusiast
  • Stylish Micra C+C:
  • Coupe/convertible with standard glass hardtop
  • 2+2 seating and best in class luggage capacity
  • All built at Europe’s most efficient plant

NOTE

The new Nissan NOTE is a roomy five-door hatchback that combines innovative styling and practicality with a strong sporting flavour. It is aimed at parents who have a need for a car to match their busy lives, but who don’t want to stop having fun behind the wheel.

The NOTE has a dynamic stance and distinctive styling cues, which will appeal to buyers who have always considered design as an important priority when they’re shopping for a car. But good style and fun to drive does not mean that the NOTE cannot meet the needs of busy families with a limited budget.

Inside, there is a vast amount of space thanks to the wheelbase of 2600mm – longer than that of a VW Golf – and the space can be maximised thanks to folding rear seats, as well as a sliding rear bench.

There will be four engine options: two 1.5 dCi diesels developing 50kW and 63kW (68 and 86PS) respectively, a 1.4-litre 65kW (88PS) petrol unit and a new 1.6-litre 81kW (110PS) petrol engine found in the new Micra 160SR and C+C.

Customer deliveries will begin in spring 2006.

Micra C+C

With the Frankfurt Motor Show debut of Micra C+C, Nissan is ready to open the latest chapter in the Micra success story. Thanks to its clever folding roof, Micra C+C allows owners the best of both worlds: fresh air when the weather allows and hardtop protection when it’s inclement.

But Micra C+C introduces another ingredient to the mix, one that’s unique in its class – the roof is all glass, so the elements can be enjoyed even in the depths of winter.

Undeniably elegant, Micra C+C is lower and longer than the hatchback Micra. The roof line, dictated by the steeply raked windscreen, is 110mm lower than on the conventional car while Micra C+C is 90mm longer overall: the extra length is all to the rear of the car where it provides the extra room needed to stow the hardtop behind the rear seats.

The hardtop itself is a work of art. With a one-touch operation and automatic latching and unlatching, it takes just 22 seconds to fold clamshell-style beneath the double-hinged trunk lid. With the roof folded, luggage space is a class leading 225 litres and that grows to 457 when the roof is up.

The C+C is powered by a 1.4- and a new 1.6-litre petrol engine, which is also used in the new Micra 160SR. Customer deliveries begin in November.

Micra 160SR

The culmination of a two-year project to develop a range-leader which would add spice and dynamism to the Micra range, the 160SR will satisfy enthusiastic drivers.

Central to the 160SR’s character is the brand new 1.6-litre 16 valve four cylinder twin cam which develops 81kW (110hp) and 153Nm of torque. The engine gives the 160SR class leading performance with a top speed potential of 183km/h (114mph). Standing start acceleration sees the 160SR reach 100km/h (62mph) from rest in just 9.8 seconds.

To produce sharper, sportier handling the suspension has been stiffened and the power steering modified to give greater feel and feedback. In addition, electronic stability control has been made a standard feature.

The Nissan press conference will take place on Tuesday 13 September at 14.30.

Press Release

New Nissan Note Debuts With Refreshed Styling and Enhanced Lineup

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced that the new Note compact car will go on sale at dealers throughout Japan beginning on January 16. Since the original Note’s debut in January 2005, it has garnered customer accolades for its quick acceleration, quiet and comfortable driving manner, comfortable roomy interior and convenient double-decker multi-configurable trunk.

The new 2008 Note features revised exterior styling, enhanced interior appearance and convenience, as well as improvements to the HR15DE engine and XTRONIC CVT, complying with Japan's new JC08 fuel economy and exhaust emission test mode*1. Additionally, the Note lineup has been revised, with a special new “Plus navi HDD" upgrade to some models.

New Note Models and Technology

Note’s strong model lineup includes a value-leading 15RS model, newly added to strengthen the Sporty grade. Additionally 15G, 15G FOUR, 15X and 15X FOUR models are available in a "Plus navi HDD" version, which includes an exclusive HDD-based navigation system with a high-speed, large-capacity 30-gigabyte hard disk drive, wide 7-inch liquid crystal monitor, touch panel, TV, VICS FM multiplex receiver, Music Stocker, iPod® Control*, CD player and electronically tuned AM/FM radio; green-tinted UV-blocking windshield glass with a top shade; and two rear speakers.

Refreshed Exterior Styling

The 2008 Note features a new front end design, with new headlights, hood, grille and bumper. Additional front end enhancements include a choice of grille finish on the G and X Series Notes – either a body-color or gunmetal metallic finish – or a “smoky chrome” - plated grille on the Sporty Series Note.

Ten exterior colors are available on the 2008 Note, including three new colors – a special Titanium Pearl Metallic Blue Turquoise, Titanium Metallic Frosty Green and Pearl Metallic Amethyst Gray.

An Interior Emphasizing Style And Convenience

The 2008 Note’s interior provides a tasteful ambience while offering convenience for the driver and passengers. Note’s new instrument panel styling, with larger openings for the dual ringed meters with the liquid crystal display odometer and twin trip meters with a fuel consumption display function, provides enhanced readability. White-faced gauges are standard on the Sporty Series (15RX and 15RS), as is a genuine leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel with red stitching (standard on 15RX).

Note features a wide variety of convenience equipment, including a standard rear-seat center armrest with two cupholders on the 15G, 15G FOUR, 15RS and 15RX models; standard water-repellent seat fabric that resists dirt and moisture, in a set with a seatback table on the driver's seat on the 15G and 15G FOUR models; standard cold climate package on all 4WD models; and a standard seatbelt reminder system for the driver on all models.

New seat and door trim color packages are offered in Sand Beige, featuring a new color scheme; Black; and Carbon Black with red stitching.

Sporty, Environmentally Responsible Powertrain

Available with both 2WD and 4WD drivelines, the 2008 Note remains easy to drive, with low fuel consumption and clean emissions. Improvements have been made to the HR15DE 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and XTRONIC CVT, which enables all 2WD models to comply with the requirements of the new JC08 fuel economy and exhaust emission test mode*1.

Confirmed on the basis of the recently adopted JC08H + JC08C emissions test mode*1, which better reflects actual driving conditions, 2WD Note models emit 75% fewer nitrogen oxides (NOx) and non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHC) than the levels required under Japan's 2005 exhaust emission regulations. 4WD Note models also attain the same reduced emission levels under the 10-15+11 test mode.

Additionally, due to the adopted JC08 test mode*1, as well as on conventional 10-15 test mode data, fuel economy figures have been realigned for 2WD Note models which more closely matches actual fuel consumption in real-world driving.

2008 Nissan GT-R GT500 Ready to Tokyo

In new Nissan Works livery

This Friday, January 11 2008, Nissan will reveal their 2008 Nissan GT-R GT500 race car at the Tokyo Auto Salon, alongside a few more concepts and tuning packages (which now also include a Nismo Tiida S-Tune Proto, more info in Japanese here). The new GT-R GT500 will be shown in the new Nissan livery, which has been designed as a collaboration between Nissan, NISMO (Nissan Motorsport) and feedback from members of the 'Club NISMO' fan club.

The brush stroke design motif will remain in the livery due to the fact that motorsport fans from all over the world immediately associate that with Nissan. Otherwise the car will mainly use red (signifiying racing passion) and black (signifiying high performance), swiping forward from the rear.

There are no new images available of the GT-R GT500 but we have managed to dig up a video of the GT-R GT500 on the race track during its first outting back in November 2007.

Press Release

Debut at Tokyo Auto Salon 2008 and Osaka Auto Messe 2008

The GT500 specification Nissan GT-R racing car, which will vie for the 2008 SUPER GT series, will make its public debut at the upcoming "Tokyo Auto Salon with NAPAC" (January 11-13, 2008 at Makuhari Messe), followed by the "Osaka Auto Messe 2008" (February 9-11, 2008 at Intecks Osaka), the country's two largest annual custom car shows.

The new works livery - which will be featured across Nissan motorsports activities during the 2008 season - will be unveiled on the race car. Nissan will vie for the SUPER GT Championship, one of the world's most demanding GT race series, with the new machine built on the same multi-performance super car concept of the Nissan GT-R road car.

The new livery resulted from close collaboration between Nissan's design team and NISMO, its motorsports affiliate company, and incorporates feedback from members of the "Club NISMO" fan club.

The signature wide "brush stroke" design motif, synonymous with the current Fairlady Z race car, was carried forward into the new GT-R racing car as Nissan's racing fans worldwide could immediately associate with the design. The livery design swipes forward from the rear in bold red and black - the red symbolizes the passion for racing, while the black signifies the high performance of the new Nissan GT-R.

Further details of the GT500 Nissan GT-R including technical specifications will be announced on January 31st, as well as Nissan's full range of global motorsports activities for the coming season.
